A few weeks ago I complimented a coworker’s new iPad. He gloated that he bought it at Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Ala. I was shocked! I had no idea that Unclaimed Baggage sold iPad’s! What?!
After my coworker told me more about the gem mine of sales and fun just down the road from our house, I knew I had to check it out!
Honestly, I thought Unclaimed Baggage might be a sad experience. I thought I would worry about the people who lost their baggage! But my friend promised me that Unclaimed Baggage was a happy experience. I’m told that every effort to contact the owners of the bags is exhausted before the bags go up for auction.
When my friend Grace came to visits, we decided to make the trip to Unclaimed Baggage!
Right inside the front door, there is a museum section. It’s a rare treat to be able to feel like a tourist in your own state! The entire experience was a wonderful mixture of slightly kitschy fun.
People come from all over the world to experience Unclaimed Baggage!
Check out these pins!
After you make your way past the entryway museum, it’s time to start hunting down some deals!
Here is a look at the women’s clothing section! Everything is VERY clean and organized. It didn’t have that thrift store feel…. it didn’t have a funny smell…. it was pleasant.
After the first adrenaline rush at the jewelry section, we scattered around the giant store.
Here is a map of all the sections!
It was crazy.
After a lot of looking and sifting, I came away with this neat little necklace. $15.
I wonder who it belonged to before it became unclaimed? 😉
Unclaimed Baggage is something you MUST experience at least once in your life. Do not expect an extreme steal on items. The appraisers at Unclaimed Baggage definitely know what they have. Everything is priced fairly.
For instance, when they have an authentic Prada handbag…. they know they have a Prada handbag. You will not find it thrown in the bottom of a pile of purses.
Get your friends together, bring a wad of cash, and make the journey to Unclaimed Baggage. It is lots of fun.
Have you been? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!
P.S. On the weekends, a few areas near the store have their own quirky sales! I ended up buying this awesome doll house for $20! Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet, but I couldn’t pass it up.
