October 28, 2010(Even if you don’t drink alcohol,
cute garnishes and fun glasses makes anything more festive!)
Jack-0′-Lantern Cocktail
1 oz cognac
.5 oz Grand Marnier
1.5 oz orange juice
.5 oz ginger ale
orange wheel & lime twist for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with an orange & lime “Pumpkin Top”.
“Pumpkin Top” Garnish
Fold a small piece of lime twist/peel in half and insert it into the center of an orange wheel.
Mali-BOO Witches Brew
1 1/4 oz. Malibu rum
3/4 oz. white creme de cacao
1/4 oz. grapefruit juice
3/4 oz. orange juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and serve into martini glass and garnish with Halloween gummy worms.
The “blood rim” is made from the same kind of mixture as you’d use to make hard candy. It’s actually pretty easy, but you will need a candy thermometer (which you can find at most grocery stores).
Ingredients:
1 c. Sugar
1/2 c. Karo Syrup
1/2 c. Water
Red Food Coloring
Directions:
Combine sugar, syrup and water. Cook without stirring to hard crack stage – which is 300 degrees F. Add food coloring.
Turn off heat. While the mixture is still hot, dunk the top of the cocktail glass into the mixture to create the red rim. If you need to do several glasses, keep the mixture hot so it lasts longer (instead of turning heat off, just reduce slightly). You can go anywhere from just along the very tip of the rim to part way down the glass – whichever you prefer. Flip the glass right side up to cool. The thick consistency of the mixture will cause “drips” as it hardens on the glass!
THESE LOOK SINFULLY SWEET!
Caramel Apple Martini:
1-1/2 oz Van Gogh Wild Appel Vodka
1/2 oz Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka
1/2 oz Apple Schnapps
Glaze the inside of a chilled martini glass with caramel syrup and place glass in the refrigerator until ready to use. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into chilled glass glazed with caramel syrup. Float a thinly sliced apple round (seeds removed) on top.
PepperMint Pattini:
1-1/2 oz Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka
1/2 oz Crème de menthe
1/2 oz Chocolate Liqueur
1/2 oz Cream
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a Peppermint Pattie candy wedge.
Peanut Butter Cup:
1-1/2 oz Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka
1 oz Castries Crème Peanut Rum
3/4 oz Chocolate Liqueur
1/2 oz Cream
Drizzle chocolate syrup into the bottom of a martini glass. Place the glass into the refrigerator until ready to use. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into the chilled martini glass and garnish with a peanut butter cup.
Snickertini:
1/2 oz Baileys
1-1/2 oz Van Gogh Dutch Caramel Vodka
1/2 oz Chocolate Liqueur
1/2 oz Amaretto
Splash of cream
Drizzle a thin line of both caramel and chocolate sauce on the inside of a rocks glass and place in refrigerator to chill. Combine all ingredients into a shaker and shake over ice. Pour entire contents of shaker into glass and add straw.
Candy Corn Shooter:

* Combine Orange Van Gogh Vodka and Banana Liqueur into a mixer with ice. Shake and
pour into the bottom of the shot glass.
* Combine Coconut Rum, Orange Curacao, Cream, and dash of Grenadine (for color). Shake in shaker with ice and gently layer on top using a spoon.
* Top with whipped cream.
Black Devil Martini
Ingredients:
2 oz. dark rum
1/2 oz. dry vermouth
Black olive
Preparation:
Stir and strain into chilled martini glass, garnish with olive. Rim the glass with coarse orange sugar to dress it up for a Halloween party.
Happy October 11th!
October 11, 2010Every October 11th I think about The Parent Trap!

HALLIE
How old are you?
ANNIE
(her mouth full)
I’ll be twelve on October 11th.
HALLIE

So will I.
ANNIE
Your birthday’s October 11th?

How weird is that?
HALLIE
Very.

Hey, it stopped raining. Want to get a popsicle or something?
